SERVICES
Restoring beautiful masonry that has been standing for over 100 years is just one of our many outstanding masonry services. Fieldstone Building Services features expertise in masonry from repointing a chimney to restoring historical buildings.
Tuckpointing and restoration is not always limited to older structures. It is also used for newer buildings where mortar & sealants may have been damaged or need to be replaced due to poor installation or product failures. With little crew turnover, Fieldstone’s experienced craftsmen guarantee a safe, consistent and outstanding restoration project. Call us for your next masonry project.
  • Repointing  (commonly known as tuckpointing)

Cracking, missing or deteriorating mortar provides a direct avenue through which water can penetrate the masonry walls. This water becomes subject to the excessive forces of the freeze-thaw cycles, and eventually will deteriorate the masonry units. The process of repointing carefully removes mortar from the joints by grinding them out of a masonry wall, and replaces it with new mortar that has been smartly formulated.
  • Masonry Cleaning

Urban masonry buildings are subject to industrial pollutants and carbon that can, in many cases, discolor the surface of the masonry. Masonry cleaning serves two purposes: to restore the building’s discolored facade back to its original splendor, and to create a good clean surface on which new mortar can bond. If done improperly, the masonry can be burned and/or discolored permanently. Fieldstone provides expertise in masonry cleaning by first evaluating the condition of the masonry and determining whether it is appropriate to clean. Our masonry cleaning services utilize the latest technology and skilled craftsmen to ensure the best outcome.
  • Waterproofing

To prevent moisture penetration into absorbent masonry units, waterproofing the masonry surface is vital. Penetrating and breathable water repellents should be considered for this purpose. The use of inappropriate water repellents can actually contribute to trapping moisture in the wall, thus not allowing it to breathe, resulting in damage to the wall. Fieldstone incorporates only tested and approved water repellents ensuring the evaporation of any moisture within the walls.
  • Joint Sealing

Modern commercial structures rely heavily on joint sealants to prevent water infiltration into wall systems. Improper application and UV rays contribute to the failure of joint sealants. The joints must be inspected and maintained water tight to prevent water infiltration. Fieldstone has experienced professionals to inspect and properly seal commercial structure joints.
  • Terra Cotta, Brick & Stone Facade Restoration

    • Terra cotta presents both simple and complex restoration issues. Many times it involves the deterioration of structural elements. No restoration project is identical to another, which adds to the complexity of terra cotta restoration. Fieldstone Building Services has established itself as a leader in the complex field of terra cotta restoration.
    • Stone restoration can include repair, replacement or re-creating any damaged stone building elements. The negative effects of time can be damaging to intricate ornamental masonry elements.
    • Masonry facades are subjected to weather related thermal expansion and pollution. Over time, mortar & sealants become deteriorated and structural damage begins. Checking the condition of your masonry facades is an important part of Fieldstone’s regular maintenance program.
  • Parapet Walls

Fieldstone inspects parapet walls for deteriorating coping joint sealants, cracked or open mortar joints and other signs of deterioration. Deteriorating parapet walls can lead to water infiltration into the structure, which is not only harmful to the structure but is a common cause of failure of parts of the roofing system.
  • Chimneys

Because of their high exposure to the elements on all four sides and interior/exterior temperature differences that create condensation and acidic flu gasses, chimneys are more prone to deterioration and should be part of a regularly scheduled maintenance program. Ask a Fieldstone representative for more information on chimney inspection/repair.
  • Lintel/Beam/Channel Replacement

Lintels are the steel support beams, usually placed above windows and openings to support the masonry and building elements above. Fieldstone's skilled craftsmen replace these structural elements without damaging surrounding brick or stone work. This involves proper shoring of the masonry above while the deteriorated steel is being rehabilitated or replaced.
